As well as a truly incredible case of handling grief badly, considering how she lived for centuries and adamantly refused to ever get over or move past it. This is also likely the reason behind her decision to remain in the body of herself as a child, forever remaining at the age when her father was taken away from her.

When her father was still alive, Carol is shown to have been a cheerful and kind young girl. Her father’s curiosity as an Alchemist only served to inspire Carol to follow in his footsteps. She adored her father above all else. After the loss of her father, however, her personality took a quick 180. She became cold, arrogant, callous, cynical, and even manipulative for the sake of her goals. There is little that she will not sacrifice, be it her own memories or even her own life.

This is shown in how her preferred method of powering her alchemy is via burning her own memories as fuel, as well as sacrificing her own life—even if only temporarily—as a necessary step of her plans. Her memories and life are, or rather were, simply additional resources to expend. The only worth in preserving them at all being in how some are simply required in order to continue forward. She cannot complete her goals if she remains dead, after all.

Still, her resolve—or perhaps, her obsession—is nigh-unbreakable. She is able to continue following through with her plans even if the memories concerning it are burned. Even if she cannot recall his face, even if she cannot recall his name, even if her heart has withered completely, she will not stop in her quest to kill all miracles. Everything that pulses and beats. Everything that is alive. Even if she does not remember why, she will still ensure that everything is destroyed. You could even call it stubbornness, if you think about it.

At least, that’s how it was for her. The realization of the true meaning behind her father’s last words is, at least, able to finally bring her some level of peace.

Despite her arrogance, Carol is a lonely girl who’s grief drove her mad for centuries. Lonely by choice, but lonely all the same. She refused to make connections, all of her allies being quite literally manufactured by herself. At the very end of everything, what she ended up fearing most was not the incineration of herself, but the possibility of being forgotten by others, opting to burn everything she had rather than burn the memories of Elfnein, despite the latter being an option for her, and therefore preserve Elfnein’s memories of Carol as a result.

Of course, her arrogance and pride will never allow her to let anyone know of this.

Her arrogance is also shown in the way she speaks, both in and out of a fight. She talks down to everyone (funny, considering she’s shorter than everyone) and generally considers herself to be above them as well. More subtly, she also speaks using the Japanese pronoun “ore” when referring to herself, which is traditionally a sign of arrogance.

She is easily annoyed, showing an almost child-level amount of patience for certain things despite the amount of patience she has to have had in order to live and wait for centuries for the chance to put her plans into motion. Overall, despite being a centuries-old alchemist and having all of that plus an adult-level intellect, her emotional maturity remains stunted and at a level more befitting of her actual appearance. Yet another result of Carol’s… unique way of processing grief.

5-10 Key Character Traits: stubborn, lonely, volatile, impatient, arrogant, unstable, callous, calculating, wrathful, irritable
Would you prefer a monster that FITS your character’s personality, CONFLICTS with it, EITHER, or opt for 100% RANDOMIZATION? Fits
Opt-Outs: Harpy, Lich, Shade, Troll, Kelpie, Naga, Waldgeist

Roleplay Sample: Here

comments
